About me
My name is Marco Leonardis and my path into UX hasn’t been a straight line. Working across different fields and with very different people has given me a broader perspective that I bring into my work.
I’m particularly motivated to work on projects and in sectors that create long-term value for the environment, in any form, because I believe the way we design today directly shapes the future we’ll live in.
I’m a User Experience Designer focused on understanding user behaviour and shaping practical, user-centred digital experiences. I’m particularly motivated to work in sectors that create long-term value, including environmental and future-focused contexts, because I believe the way we design today directly shapes the world we’ll live in tomorrow.
I’m based in St Albans, UK, originally from Rome. Before moving into UX, I worked across hospitality, small business and entrepreneurship, academic research, and fieldwork as an archaeologist. Each of these experiences taught me something different about how people behave, make decisions, build trust, and find meaning in the things they use.
Hospitality was where I first understood that experience is never abstract: it either works, or people disengage. Small details, clarity, and empathy can completely change how an interaction feels. Running two e-commerce projects later gave me a hands-on understanding of digital products end to end: from visual choices and content, to trust, consistency, and iteration based on real user behaviour.
Studying archaeology trained me to observe carefully, research without assumptions, and build conclusions grounded in evidence. Fieldwork strengthened my ability to read context, think in complex systems, and understand human behaviour beyond what is immediately visible.
At a certain point, all of this converged into a clear direction: UX.
I realised that understanding people, navigating complexity, and bringing structure and clarity to messy information had always been at the core of my work, and naturally led me to experience design.
Today, my approach to UX is research-driven and detail-oriented. I work with qualitative research, usability testing, information architecture, wireframing, and prototyping to shape practical, user-centred solutions. I’m naturally curious, comfortable working through ambiguity, and I actively seek feedback as part of my process to refine ideas and improve design decisions.
As I just said, my journey hasn’t been linear. However, this journey allows me to design experiences that make sense, not just experiences that work.
